As a Technical Art Director at Ubisoft Berlin you have the highest-level understanding of what our tech can do, can’t do, yet could do, plus visibility on the project as a whole. Working with other directors early on, you discuss intentions before making any commitments. What you will do:

  • Collaborate with other core team members to develop the overall vision & determine technical feasibility.
  • Identify and analyze risks (engine, data, features, etc.).
  • Assess existing tools + occasionally design custom ones to support art pipelines and workflows & sustain the vision.
  • Meet with technical artists and assistant technical art directors to share information and updates, enforce standards, set benchmarks, give feedback, etc. 
  • Resolve specific, complex, escalated issues & approve technical specifications
  • Prepare post-mortems + recommend ways to evolve how we create and integrate graphic data.
  • Anticipate technological advancements and stay up to date on market trends to define our best practices + share them with our studios and the industry.
  • Participate in recruitment to build the technical art team & foster their growth.

Qualifications

What you bring:

  • Art, technical art, or programming experience, or other related experience + leadership experience
  • In-depth knowledge of game engines (e.g. Unity or Unreal) & their limitations, 2D art tools (e.g. Photoshop), 3D software (3DS Max, Maya, and Substance Painter), and an understanding of scripting languages (e.g. C#, Python, JavaScript, MaxScript)
  • Familiarity with bug tracking software (e.g. Jira) and version management systems (e.g. Perforce)

  • Proven experience on at least one shipped title
  • Being able to work with complex game animation systems and extensive animation state machines
  • Excellent knowledge of Maya, Motion Builder, 3DSMAX, and/or other commercial 3D authoring packages
  • Understand the technical workflows and tools in animation production for games with the ability to modify and improve them

As a Level Designer your role will involve creative design and practical implementation of game levels based on the creative vision, using our in-house engine, Voyager.

You will use your experience and technical skills to create 3d spaces, terrain and encounters to craft a living and believable game world.

What you will do:

  • Rapidly prototype levels within engine to test out new ideas, gameplay systems and modes
  • Collaborate closely with Technical Artists and Technical Level Designers to develop an exceptional player experience
  • Prototype the environment, establish the layouts, and suggest ways of using the interactive and non-interactive elements to create the desired emotions
  • Integrate elements produced for the game (new gameplay, AI, sound, etc.) and intensify the player experience
  • Ensure a good player guidance and consistent difficulty level
  • Develop a solid design documentation for level progression (flow), layouts and 3D block-outs for in-engine playtesting
  • Daily cooperation with other Ubisoft teams in Europe

Qualifications

What you bring:

  • 2+ years of experience in game development
  • Ability to create fun and exciting levels using a complex array of mechanics
  • Good sense of 3D game space and environmental story telling
  • Familiar with indoor and outdoor level design
  • Solid knowledge of level design fundamentals
  • Fluent in English, both verbally and written
  • Creativity, ability to challenge the player
  • Knowledge of any scripting language or programming skills is a plus
  • Experience with various level editors to create levels in AAA environment

The Team Lead Level Designer has a solid knowledge of the history and content of the project he is working on. He puts his skills in setup and technical knowledge at the disposal of the project. The Team Lead Level Designer supports the Lead Level Designer in the daily management and monitoring of the team.

What you will do:

  • Contribute to the creation and updating of Level Design documentation: guidelines, paper plans (optional in-game activities), mission briefs.
  • Have ownership on some major topics (such as: creation of guidelines and LD prototypes for specific gameplay situations)
  • Implementing level design elements in the game
  • Keeping an eye on technology and testing new solutions
  • Keep up to date on what's going on in the video game world
  • Prioritize, organize and coordinate the daily tasks of the team to ensure deadlines and quality are maintained

As our new Environment/Prop Artist (f/m/d) at Ubisoft Mainz, you will take on a central role in our small interdisciplinary team and make a significant impact on the visual appearance of a yet unannounced project. The focus is on the creation and integration of 3D content that matches the vision and technology of the project.

  • Close collaboration with the Art Director to work within the visual style of the game.
  • Modelling, texturing and implementation of realistic and high-quality 3D assets.
  • Integration of 3D assets into the game engine meeting both engine and quality requirements.

Qualifications

What you bring:

  • Very good knowledge of Unreal Engine.
  • Complete familiarity with various steps in the design of real-time 3D assets: high and low poly modelling, baking processes (organic and hard surface), and texturing (realistic).
  • Great understanding of next gen asset creation and PBR workflow, with the ability to modify and improve them.
